Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of relying on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and not becoming attached to the materialistic aspects of this world. Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this Hadith and explore its implications in light of the Quran.

The key word in this Hadith is (yastaghni) "يَسْتَغْنِ", which means to become needless or independent. It implies a state of contentment and detachment from worldly possessions, relying solely on Allah for sustenance and guidance. This concept is beautifully captured in the Quran in Surah Al-Ankabut, verse 65:

(Quran 65:3)

And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent.

This verse reinforces the idea that true reliance on Allah leads to self-sufficiency and fulfillment. When we place our trust in Allah, we acknowledge His infinite wisdom and power to provide for our needs. By doing so, we detach ourselves from the materialistic desires of this world and focus on the eternal rewards of the hereafter.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith also highlights the consequence of not becoming needless of this world through Allah. It states that such a person "has no religion." This does not mean that the person loses their faith or becomes irreligious, but rather that their faith lacks depth and sincerity. Their attachment to worldly possessions and desires hinders their spiritual growth and prevents them from fully submitting to the will of Allah.

The Quran further emphasizes the importance of prioritizing the hereafter over worldly pursuits in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 86:

(Quran 2:86)

Those are the ones who have bought the life of this world [in exchange] for the Hereafter, so the punishment will not be lightened for them, nor will they be aided.

This verse serves as a warning against those who prioritize the temporary pleasures of this world at the expense of their eternal salvation. It reminds us that true success lies in seeking the pleasure of Allah and striving for the rewards of the hereafter.

Reflecting on Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith, we are reminded of the importance of cultivating a mindset of detachment from worldly possessions and relying solely on Allah. By doing so, we free ourselves from the chains of materialism and find true contentment and peace. This does not mean that we should abandon our responsibilities or neglect our worldly duties. Rather, it means that we should prioritize our spiritual growth and seek Allah's pleasure in all aspects of our lives.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) exemplified this quality through his profound knowledge and understanding of the Quran. His detachment from worldly desires allowed him to focus on the greater purpose of life and serve as a role model for all Muslims. Let us strive to follow in his footsteps and seek Allah's guidance in becoming needless of this world through Him. May Allah grant us the strength and wisdom to prioritize our faith and seek His pleasure above all else.
