(Ghurar al-Hikam: Submission To The Will Of Allah)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

مَنْ سالَمَ اللّهَ سَلِمَ۔

which translates to

One who submits to Allah remains safe.

This concise statement holds profound wisdom and guidance for all Muslims, regardless of their sect or school of thought.

Let us delve into the meaning of the important words in this Hadith. The word (salam) "سالَمَ" is derived from the Arabic root "سَلَمَ" which means peace, safety, and submission. It signifies a state of tranquility and security that is attained by surrendering oneself completely to the will of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It encompasses both inner peace and external protection.

The word (Allah) "اللّهَ" refers to the Almighty, the One and Only God, who is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. It is important to note that this word is not specific to any particular sect or school of thought within Islam, but rather it is universally recognized and used by all Muslims.

Now, let us explore the Quranic verses that support the exegesis of this Hadith. In Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says, (Quran 31:22)

Whoever submits his face to Allah while being a doer of good, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold.

This verse emphasizes the importance of submitting oneself to Allah and performing righteous deeds. It highlights that true safety and security lie in surrendering to the will of Allah and following His guidance.

Furthermore, in Surah Yunus, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states, (Quran 10:9)

Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - their Lord will guide them because of their faith. Beneath them rivers will flow in the Gardens of Pleasure.

This verse reinforces the concept that those who submit to Allah and engage in righteous actions will be guided by Him. They will be granted eternal bliss in Paradise, where they will find serenity and contentment.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us of the importance of surrendering ourselves completely to Allah. It serves as a reminder that true safety and security can only be attained through submission to the will of our Creator. When we submit to Allah, we free ourselves from the burdens of worldly anxieties and find solace in His guidance.

By submitting to Allah, we acknowledge His sovereignty and recognize that He alone has control over our lives. This submission is not a passive act but rather an active choice to align our actions and intentions with His commandments. It requires us to strive for righteousness, to perform good deeds, and to seek His pleasure in all aspects of our lives.

When we submit to Allah, we are protected from the harms and temptations of this world. We are shielded from the negative influences that can lead us astray. Our hearts and minds are filled with tranquility, knowing that we are under the divine care and guidance of our Creator.

Moreover, submitting to Allah brings about numerous benefits and blessings in this life and the hereafter. It opens the doors of His mercy, forgiveness, and guidance. It allows us to experience a deep sense of inner peace and contentment, even in the face of adversity. It grants us the opportunity to attain eternal bliss in Paradise, where we will be surrounded by rivers of delight and everlasting joy.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a powerful reminder for all Muslims to submit themselves entirely to Allah. It highlights the importance of surrendering to His will, seeking His guidance, and performing righteous deeds. By doing so, we can attain true safety, security, and peace in this life and the hereafter. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to submit to Him wholeheartedly and experience the blessings and tranquility that come with it.
