Hadith #10801

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

In this profound Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), he states,

Whoever is certain that what Allah has decreed for him will never escape him, his heart becomes relaxed.

Let us delve into the exegesis of this Hadith and explore its deep meaning in light of the Quran.

The key words in this Hadith are (wathiqa) "وَثِقَ", which means "certain" or "firm", and (istraha) "اسْتَراحَ", which means "relaxed" or "at ease". When a person firmly believes that whatever Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) has destined for them will inevitably come to pass, their heart finds tranquility and peace. This certainty in Allah's decree is a manifestation of true faith and trust in Him.

The Quran provides numerous verses that support the essence of this Hadith. For instance, in Surah Al-Hadid (57:22), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

No disaster strikes upon the earth or among yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being - indeed that, for Allah, is easy.

This verse highlights the divine decree and emphasizes that everything that happens is already recorded and known to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). Therefore, a believer who truly comprehends this reality finds solace in the knowledge that nothing can escape Allah's plan.

Another verse that supports this Hadith is found in Surah Al-Qamar (54:49), where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

Indeed, all things We created with predestination.

This verse affirms that everything in this universe, including our lives and destinies, has been predetermined by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). When we internalize this concept, we realize that our ultimate reliance should be on Allah alone, and this understanding brings tranquility to our hearts.

Reflecting on the Hadith, we can understand that having certainty in Allah's decree has profound implications for our lives. When faced with challenges, setbacks, or unexpected events, a person who firmly believes in Allah's decree remains calm and composed. Furthermore, this Hadith teaches us the importance of surrendering our will to the will of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It reminds us that while we strive and make efforts in this world, the ultimate outcome is in the hands of Allah. This understanding frees us from unnecessary worry and anxiety, allowing us to focus on fulfilling our responsibilities without being overwhelmed by the fear of failure or the desire for control.
