Hadith #7788

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

The one who abandons [a good] action has no certainty about its reward.

This Hadith emphasizes the importance of consistency and perseverance in performing good deeds. It highlights the fact that if one neglects or abandons a righteous act, they cannot be certain of receiving its rewards.

Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this Hadith by examining the key words and their implications. The word (tarik) "تَارِكُ" refers to the one who abandons or leaves something. In this context, it signifies the individual who intentionally stops performing a good deed. The word (amal) "عَمَلِ" refers to any righteous action or deed that is done for the sake of Allah. It encompasses acts of worship, such as prayer, fasting, charity, and acts of kindness towards others.

To understand the significance of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the importance of consistency and steadfastness in performing good deeds. In Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah says, (2:110)

And be steadfast in prayer and regular in charity: And whatever good you send forth for your souls before you, you shall find it with Allah

This verse highlights the importance of regularity in acts of worship and assures us that our efforts will be rewarded by Allah.

Another verse that supports the meaning of this Hadith is found in Surah Al-Kahf, where Allah says, (18:26)

And present yourself to them as a person who is commanded [to do good], and do not follow their inclinations, and say, 'I believe in what Allah has revealed of the Book, and I have been commanded to do justice among you'

This verse emphasizes the importance of adhering to the commandments of Allah and not abandoning the path of righteousness.

The consequences of abandoning a good deed can be profound. Firstly, it weakens our relationship with Allah and diminishes our spiritual growth. When we neglect a good action, we miss out on the opportunity to draw closer to Allah and increase our faith. Secondly, it deprives us of the potential rewards and blessings that come with performing good deeds. Allah is the Most Generous, and He promises abundant rewards for those who strive to do good.

Moreover, abandoning a good deed can have negative consequences on our character and the society around us. When we neglect acts of kindness, charity, or justice, we contribute to the decline of moral values and the well-being of others. Our actions have a ripple effect, and by abandoning good deeds, we miss the chance to positively impact the lives of those around us.

Reflecting on this Hadith, we are reminded of the importance of consistency and perseverance in our journey towards righteousness. We should strive to maintain a steadfast commitment to performing good deeds, even when faced with challenges or distractions. By doing so, we not only strengthen our relationship with Allah but also contribute to the betterment of ourselves and society as a whole.

May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the strength and determination to remain steadfast in our pursuit of good deeds and may He bless us with certainty in the rewards of our actions. Ameen.
