(Ghurar al-Hikam: Deliberateness And Acting Unhurriedly)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "الأناة حسن" which translates to

Deliberateness is a virtue.

This concise statement holds profound wisdom and guidance for Muslims in their daily lives.

The word (Anah) "أناة" refers to deliberateness, thoughtfulness, and careful consideration in one's actions and decisions. It implies a sense of mindfulness and consciousness, where one is fully aware of the consequences and implications of their choices. It encourages individuals to be intentional and purposeful in their conduct, ensuring that their actions align with their principles and values.

This concept of deliberateness finds its roots in the Quran, where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the importance of thoughtful reflection and conscious decision-making. In Surah Al-Hashr (59:18), Allah says,

O you who have believed, fear Allah. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow.

This verse urges believers to contemplate their actions and their consequences, urging them to be deliberate in their choices.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Mumtahanah (60:8), Allah says,

Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes - from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.

This verse highlights the importance of deliberateness in dealing with others, emphasizing the need for fairness and justice in our interactions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds Muslims of the virtue of deliberateness in all aspects of life. It encourages us to think before we act, to consider the consequences of our choices, and to align our actions with the teachings of Islam.

Deliberateness can manifest itself in various ways. For example, in our relationships, it prompts us to be mindful of our words and actions, ensuring that we treat others with kindness, respect, and fairness. In our worship, it encourages us to perform our prayers and acts of devotion with focus and sincerity, understanding the significance of each action.

Moreover, deliberateness extends to our decision-making processes. It urges us to seek knowledge and consult reliable sources before making important choices. It reminds us to consider the long-term effects of our decisions on ourselves, our families, and society as a whole.

By embodying deliberateness in our lives, we can avoid hasty and impulsive actions that may lead to regret and harm. It enables us to make informed and conscious choices that align with our values and principles as Muslims. Deliberateness fosters a sense of mindfulness and self-awareness, allowing us to grow spiritually and morally.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us that deliberateness is a virtue that should be cultivated in our daily lives. It encourages us to be mindful, thoughtful, and intentional in our actions and decisions. By embodying this virtue, we can strive to become better Muslims, aligning our lives with the teachings of the Quran and the noble example of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (). May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the wisdom and strength to practice deliberateness in all aspects of our lives.
