Hadith #1582

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

كَيفَ يَنْفَصِلُ عَنِ الباطِلِ مَنْ لَمْ يَتَّصِلْ بِالحَقِّ؟!

which translates to,

How can one separate from falsehood when he has not attached [himself] to the truth?

This impactful Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the importance of seeking and embracing the truth in order to distance oneself from falsehood.

And when it is said to them, 'Follow what Allah has revealed,' they say, 'Rather, we will follow that which we found our fathers doing.' Even though their fathers understood nothing, nor were they guided?

This verse highlights the importance of seeking the truth from divine revelation rather than blindly following the customs and traditions of our forefathers. It emphasizes the need to detach from falsehood by attaching ourselves to the truth.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Hujurat, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states, (Quran 49:6)

O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and become, over what you have done, regretful

This verse encourages Muslims to critically analyze and investigate any information or news that comes their way, in order to discern the truth from falsehood. It emphasizes the importance of seeking the truth and avoiding the harm that can arise from blindly accepting falsehood.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement holds significant implications for our daily lives as Muslims. It reminds us that in order to distance ourselves from falsehood, we must actively seek and attach ourselves to the truth. This requires a sincere and continuous effort to acquire knowledge, understand the teachings of Islam, and apply them in our lives. This can have detrimental effects on our spiritual well-being and our relationships with Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and our fellow Muslims.

In conclusion, Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) thought-provoking Hadith reminds us of the inseparable connection between truth and falsehood. It emphasizes the importance of actively seeking and attaching ourselves to the truth in order to distance ourselves from falsehood.
