Be abundant in your remembrance of Allah, for it is the best remembrance.

(Ghurar al-Hikam: Remembrance [Of Allah] And The Reminder)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,
أفيضُوا في ذِكْرِ اللّهِ، فَإنَّهُ أحْسَنُ الذِّكْرِ۔
This Hadith emphasizes the importance of abundant remembrance of Allah, as it is the best form of remembrance.
Let us delve into the key words of this Hadith to gain a deeper understanding. The word (afidu) "أفيضُوا" is derived from the root word (fawda) "فَوْضَ", which means to overflow or abound. It signifies the need to exceed the minimum requirement and to go beyond the ordinary in our remembrance of Allah. This word encourages us to engage in continuous and abundant remembrance of Allah, not just in times of need or during specific acts of worship.
The word (dhikr) "ذِكْرِ" refers to the remembrance of Allah. It encompasses various forms of remembrance, such as recitation of the Quran, supplication, praising Allah, and reflecting upon His attributes and blessings. The word (ahsanu) "أحْسَنُ" means the best or the most excellent. It highlights the superiority and excellence of remembrance of Allah over any other form of remembrance.
To further understand the significance of abundant remembrance of Allah, let us turn to the Quran. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-A'raf (7:205),
And remember your Lord within yourself in humility and in fear without being apparent in speech - in the mornings and the evenings. And do not be among the heedless.
This verse emphasizes the importance of internal remembrance of Allah, which should be done with humility and fear, not just through verbal expressions. It encourages us to remember Allah in the mornings and evenings, indicating the need for consistent remembrance throughout the day.
In Surah Al-Jumu'ah (62:10), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,
And when the prayer has been concluded, disperse within the land and seek from the bounty of Allah, and remember Allah often that you may succeed.
This verse highlights the connection between remembrance of Allah and success. It encourages us to remember Allah frequently after completing our prayers and to seek His blessings and provisions in our daily lives.
The consequences of abundant remembrance of Allah are manifold. Firstly, it strengthens our relationship with Allah and increases our consciousness of Him. When we constantly remember Allah, our hearts become more inclined towards Him, and we develop a deeper sense of awe and reverence. Secondly, abundant remembrance of Allah helps us in seeking His forgiveness and mercy. It serves as a means of repentance and seeking His guidance in our lives. Thirdly, remembrance of Allah brings tranquility and peace to our hearts. It serves as a source of comfort and solace, especially during times of difficulty and distress.
Moreover, abundant remembrance of Allah motivates us to perform righteous deeds and avoid sins. When we are constantly aware of Allah's presence, we become more mindful of our actions and strive to align them with His commands. It serves as a constant reminder of our purpose in life and encourages us to live in accordance with His guidance.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) urges us to be abundant in our remembrance of Allah, as it is the best form of remembrance. This Hadith aligns with the teachings of the Quran, which emphasize the importance of consistent and heartfelt remembrance of Allah. Abundant remembrance of Allah strengthens our relationship with Him, brings us closer to success, and serves as a source of guidance and tranquility. May Allah grant us the ability to constantly remember Him and benefit from the blessings of His remembrance.
